MMA Fighting has UFC on FOX 29 results for the Poirier vs. Gaethje fight card Saturday night, live blogs for the main map, and live UFC on FOX 29 Twitter updates.

In the main event, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje will compete in a key weight competition. Meanwhile, Carlos Condit will try to bounce back in the winning streak when he faces Alex Oliveira in the co-main event.

Justin Gaethje vs. Dustin Poirier

Mookie Alexander: A big question mark is whether Justin Gaethje’s chin was completely compromised after being knocked out. If this is the case, Poirier could awaken her in the first round and that’s all she wrote for Gaethje, never reaching the elite of the division. I expect Poirier to get a better start, work his boxing and bat Gaethje right now, but I do not think he’s strong enough to win a fight with Justin Gaethje. As Zane mentioned in Vivisection, the Poirier game tends to collapse when the fight becomes more chaotic, and that’s bad news against Gaethje. Combine that with Gaethje’s brutal kicks – think of Pear’s problems in Jim Miller’s UFC fight – and see Gaethje come back to hurt Dustin and finish him in an epic battle.

Justin Gaethje by TKO, round 2.

Zane Simon: If Dustin Poirier wins, it will probably not be half of the fight. Poirier’s power mix and his willingness to set up a high-level game mean that his wins are either very fast or very long. On the other hand, Gaethje is here to enter into an absurd fight that constantly wobbles on the brink of loss. The trick for Gaethje is that in the moments when he is the closest to losing, he is usually the closest to winning, so he is more than happy to put himself there. If Poirier’s left-handed style limits Gaethje’s kicks and Pear can constantly dig into the body (or if he just gets the quick KO), he can win, but Gaethje just has to fight his fight, draw Poirier into some sloppy thing and catch it. If he can do it, I think Gaethje is much more likely to keep up the momentum than Poirier is to fight against adversity. Justin Gaethje via KO, turn 3.

Victor Rodriguez: Does Gaethje’s chin go down after Eddie Alvarez brutalized him in his last fight? Absolutely. Will Poirier give it another blow with this formula? Surely not. Dustin is another type of fighter who will be smart and pick his shots, kill Justin’s legs with kicks and maybe target the body as Alvarez did. Gaethje has the determination and durability of another world, but it only takes you so far against a smart fighter who is more athletic and just peaking. Dustin Poirier by decision.
